More street changes coming as work to start at Plumstead Corner
Another section of Plumstead High Street is set to see street changes commence next week.
The area around Plumstead Corner at the roundabout where Plumstead High Street and Wickham Lane meet is to see six weeks of roadworks from Monday 23 March to build:
- A new zebra crossing on the eastern arm of the roundabout

- Updating the existing zebra crossing
- Widening the pedestrian island and footways
- Updated road markings
- Resurfacing the road
This work follows on the heels of changes a short distance west currently underway and covered recently on this site.
An area around Bannockburn school and a petrol station is seeing the road narrowed with a new crossing and relocated bus stops.

Station changes
At the complete other end of Plumstead High Street a number of changes are to be made to streets outside the station as well as nearby areas. That was covered last month.
Following that TfL are to rework the Southern part of the one-way system (see this post from November 2025 for what’s in store). Then following that (yes I know, there’s a lot proposed) there will be changes to the northern part of the one-way system.

Many of these various projects come under different funding streams and projects. In some cases reversing changes made not too long ago as in the case with road layout south of the bus garage.
Recent work
Unfortunately some more recent changes aren’t looking too great along Plumstead High Street.
A car park along the road is a textbook example of how not to spend grant funding. Greenwich spent a sizable amount of money on works such as new raised planters and landscaping just to sell it shortly after.

It’s now a mess with landscaping removed and fly tipping on site for weeks on end.
Millions spent yet this site in the middle of it all drags the whole area down. Hopefully any forthcoming changes are low maintenance as they aren’t often looked after.
