Former Deptford High Street pub set to become a Savers
A former pub on Deptford High Street which closed for good earlier this year looks set to become a branch of Savers.
Plans have been submitted for the former Jam Circus which was known as the Job Centre before that.

That’s because it was formerly an actual Job Centre. When Antic opened a pub on site they gave it the name of its former use, which they often did at various sites.
See the GPO in Eltham, Woolwich Equitable or Leyton Technical.
That didn’t stop some complaining the name was an example of gentrification rather than them doing what they usually did.
And anyway, as someone in a not very well paying job who used to drink in Deptford at the time, it was one of the cheapest places to have a few beers. Gentrification is often shorthand for rising prices not bringing something affordable.
It was a decent place but eventually changed name to Jam Circus around 2023.
Like many other pubs related to Antic it later closed. In January 2026 to be precise.
Ever more competition arrived in the form of places like nearby Badger Badger as well as various places to eat and drink around the station and railway arches.
Now the old pub will become a branch of Savers if plans are approved. Good news for fans of cheap toothpaste (and who isn’t?).

I think a branch of Savers will do very well indeed on Deptford High Street. They offer a range of goods at very reasonable prices.
Ranging from tooth paste, cold remedies, and other health products. make up, after shaves, Perfumes etc etc.
