Changes planned at Woolwich estate development with construction underway

An estate redevelopment project in Woolwich is now well underway with a photo from developer Pure Lake showing progress across the site in recent months.
The estate in question is Brookhill which formerly had 80 homes and will see 254 new dwellings. It was previously MOD housing and sold in the 1990s.

This week has seen proposed changes across the site submitted which if approved will reduce cycle parking for future residents despite a major new cycle lane currently being built to Woolwich.
The cycle lane in question in cycleway 4 which is currently seeing millions spent on an extension from Charlton to Woolwich. TfL are funding the project with the Mayor proclaiming the move.
Recent changes
Proposed cycle space reduction are also due to the Mayor permitting developers to construct fewer secure cycle spaces in new developments as part of a package of measures recently announced, which also include paying less Community Infrastructure Levy to councils to fund local services and infrastructure improvements as well as reductions in “affordable” housing targets.
That could hit the ability to fund other improvements at Woolwich from forthcoming projects, including plans for a second station entrance to alleviate the popular station.
In total the parking reduction at Woolwich’s Brookhill estate will be a drop of 159 cycle spaces from 459 to 300. Other sites which have seen similar reductions include a new development in Greenwich.
Alterations submitted in February 2026 saw an increase of student flats from 340 to 353 whilst cycle parking spaces will reduce from 0.75 spaces per bed to 0.5 spaces per bed.

Hi
I travelled through Abbeywood railway station yesterday and something I didn’t notice….bicycles…in Paddington I remember on my last visit zillions of them…in Abbeywood…the absence…
Parking opposite the station is saying we don’t care about security for your bicycle which could be worth thousands…bring a van and take 20 with you..
