Major Greenwich development to start in October

A major Greenwich development is set to start soon as part of a project which’ll bring hundreds more students flats to the town.

According to a newly submitted timeline, piling rigs will be set-up from 6 October at the site beside Boord Street.

Storage box already underway. Student block seen to the right.

This is for the student housing component and not an adjacent storage building which has already commenced. Earlier this year student rooms were bumped up from 340 to 353 whilst cycle parking spaces reduced from 0.75 spaces per bed to 0.5 spaces per bed.

Cain are seeking to complete the student part of this development by 2029/30. Other blocks on site will be built by Fairview Homes who have agreement for 352 flats towers facing Boord Street and Millennium Way. They top out at 26-floors.

Boord Street ahead. Site is on right with footbridge ahead.

The quality of streets when on foot and cycle here is…interesting.

The infamous Silvertown tunnel cycle bus has its southern stop a short distance away. Given how delightful local streets are, surprisingly few use it.

For some reason few cycle to the shuttle bus via here

A recently installed footbridge over the Blackwall and Silvertown tunnel approaches is also located near the development site.

Cross over when heading to local shops and transport links and you’ll be greeted with more stunning vistas.

Top work

Incredibly, few cyclists use this route either to reach the shuttle bus.

Don’t expect much to change with improvements to the wider public realm when the latest towers are complete. It’s all pretty small scale stuff.

  • Students may help to breath some life back in to the Boroughs local economy especially the local night time economy. The student rooms must only be allowed to house students and no other residents.
This would be to ensure student safety at all times.

  • Greenwich Council seem to favour student accommodation over family homes and suitable homes for the elderly and disabled.
