New Woolwich student flats now occupied on Beresford Street

Two blocks of adjoining student flats in Woolwich town centre are now occupied.

A total of 430 student rooms are located on Beresford Street which should provide a welcome boost to local shops and business.

Student block

Judging by the amount of lights on last night it seems well occupied. It’s been named Press House.

The return of students to the town could mark an improvement in bars, pubs, restaurants and places to eat, of Woolwich already has a fair few good outlets.

Just yesterday this site covered plans for a new Nepalese restaurant on Hare Street and there’s recent arrivals such as Bob’s Your Uncle coffee just over the road from new student rooms. A number of independent food stalls are also nearby.

Beresford Street

The site was formerly home to a Catholic Club. The first student block was approved when the same developer purchased land from Berkeley Homes to build next door. Now it’s hard to tell the difference between the two blocks which rose seperately.

Further along Beresford Street sits a site Berkeley didn’t sell where they’re building 660 homes at the Ropeyards site. In the above image you can just about make out the concrete core further down the street.

Unfortunately the town centre upgrade is looking ever worse. I’ll write up about that but after taking photos of new builds I walked over and a lot of the street future is looking in very poor condition not long after the £21 million project completed.

I’m not sure it’ll attract many new residents of an evening more than once or twice.
