Waterlink Way bridge set to reopen in mid-November

Work to replace a bridge at Waterlink Way looks set to finally complete in mid November according to Lewisham Council.

An update on the delayed project states that work on the western side of the bridge is now complete with landscaping underway.

The bridge is due to be delivered and lifted into place during the week beginning Monday 26th October.

Following that the council state that “the temporary bridge at Winsford Road will be removed and landscaping work will be completed on the eastern side.

“These final works are expected to take around two to three weeks. We currently expect the new bridge to open in mid-November, giving residents and visitors a new route across the area.

“We’ll be able to confirm the opening date once the bridge has been successfully installed.”

Delay

The £650,000 bridge south of Catford station has seen a number of delays blamed on Thames Water.

It was mentioned in a council report back in 2022: “Funding not provided in 2022/23 due to programme constraints however is included for 2023/24”.

Work was eventually supposed be undertaken in the 2025/26 financial year. An opening earlier this year was delayed with the authority

blaming Thames Water stating “we discovered water mains pipes that weren’t shown on the plans we’d been given by Thames Water”.

No, it’s not a new route, they’re reopening a route that they temporarily closed in order to carry out repairs.
