New London Overground station entrance at Surrey Quays takes shape
Signage and fittings now adorn a new station entrance under construction in south east London.
Surrey Quays station’s second entrance is set to open this year with a November 2026 date appearing in a February 2026 TfL report.
The project includes step-free access to both platforms and a recently-installed bridge across tracks. A new ticket hall and gate line will be located to the north side of the Lower Road.

It’s all part of a major development covering much of the nearby area including Surrey Quays shopping centre.
A former cinema and bing hall has already been demolished with Tesco set to move to that site. The shopping centre will then be demolished.

Surrey Quays station is in the bottom left in the above image, with adjacent blocks set to rise in height beyond originally agreed levels.
Revised plans that increased homes and reduced “affordable” housing levels was recently approved. Levels have fallen from 35 per cent in 2020 to nine per cent after the Mayor agreed to a reduction in March this year.
In total the revised Canada Water masterplan could see up to 4,184 new homes.

British Land are behind the venture along Australian pension fund AustralianSuper (yep, it’s all one word).
Surrey Quays station can be a tight squeeze at platform level even with a new entrance. Southbound trains see no doors opening in the rear carriage.
The line will however see a frequency increase from 16 to 18 trains per hour from December 2026 with a further increase to 20 tph set for 2029.

Is Surrey Quays station not in the bottom left of that image of the plans?
It is. Sorry I’ve now edited it.
Is TfL planning on building a new London Overground station at Surrey Canal Road near to Millwall “New Den Stadium” FC since the East London Line (Windrush Line) was extended to Clapham Junction.
London Overground should upgrade more of its stations along its entire network that Overground stations on the Weaver Line, Mildmay Line, Windrush Line, Suffragette Line and Lioness Line that could be qualified for step free access. Including new lifts or ramps to access the platforms. As well as a new lift at Upminster station platform 6 on the Liberty Line.
Would be optional to have a brand new London Overground station at Surrey Canal Road in Bermondsey. As there were plans to put a new railway station as part of the Bermondsey regenerative scheme and also to serve Millwall FC “The New Den stadium”.
I thought new surrey quays entrance was opening in August. Very disappointing to hear November is when it is now opening.
