Surray Quays station upgrade set to open in November 2026 say TfL
Work to expand Surrey Quays station is set to open in mid November according to a new TfL report.
A target date of 16 November is listed for “Entry into service of the new station areas for public use (excluding final public realm and landscaping works) in a report before the Programmes and Investment Committee.
A second station building is under construction to the north of Lower Road closer to Surrey Quays shopping centre which is set for redevelopment.
A November 2026 opening is slightly later than the previous date of summer 2025.

A footbridge was installed across tracks in February 2025 as part of the project. Other work includes a new ticket hall and barrier line.
Platform humps are set to be installed in March 2026.
Housing and shops

The current station is cramped at both platform and street level and will be insufficient for thousands more homes planned in the local area.
Surrey Quays shopping centre is set for redevelopment and will see 3,000 homes. The area’s cinema and bowling alley has been demolished for new homes and location for Tesco.

When Tesco depart the shopping centre redevelopment will commence with new homes and shops to be built across the site which includes the car park.
Plans were revealed in 2024 to increase the height of buildings across the site. So far completed new builds are located close to Canada Water station.
It’s not only stations that will improve but London Overground service levels through the station, with trains per hour rising from 16 to 18 later this year with an eventual target of 20 per hour.

When is a new London Overground Windrush Line station planned to be at Surrey Canal Road that would serve the area and the station to be adjacent or very close to Millwall FC ‘The New Den’ stadium. As Surrey Quays is the nearest station on the Windrush Line to the football stadium.
And of course South Bermondsey station that is only served by GTR Southern service (London Victoria-London Bridge via Denmark Hill).
