New building proposed in Greenwich Park
Plans went in before Christmas for a new building in Greenwich Park for use by volunteers and those working at the boating lake.
The structure would be located to the north east of the park not too far from the entrance lose to Maze Hill station.

A related application approved earlier this year (covered here) will a newly constructed park opening and gate in the listed boundary wall of the Queen’s Orchard.
According to the application: “The existing volunteer welfare facilities at the northern end of the Park are unfit for purpose and in need of improvement.
“There is currently insufficient space for toilets, kitchen facilities, lockers or storage for equipment. Volunteers are currently unable to prepare refreshments or shelter from the elements. TRP [The Royal Parks] are therefore seeking to construct a new welfare building to provide much needed space to meet the needs of volunteers”.

Works will mean “the removal of five Category C trees (four mature sycamores and one mature elder). Four pear trees are proposed to be planted to the north of the new building.”
It does also state that 49 cherry trees are proposed elsewhere in the central area of the park.
