Greenwich Borough Hall sees plan for church and dance space

The owner of Greenwich Borough Hall has applied for church use alongside a performing art college.

Owner Lita Homes are seeking “retrospective permission for the dual use of the first floor of the building as a place of worship, a dance studio and event space and Performing Arts College.”

Despite lacking planning permission “it is occupied and will continue to be by a faith group called, Hillsong Church London.” It’s been used for church use since last September.

Another organisation named Millennium Performing Arts would occupy the ground floor.

The application continues: “The place of worship use would only operate once per week on Sundays. Church services are held between 11am – 12.45pm, with general access given to members between 8am – 2pm”.

Greenwich Dance vacated the site some years ago in 2017. Subsequent plans for a theatre showing west-end style productions did not proceed.

The building sits alongside the old Town Hall sold in 1973 which has recently seen residential conversion plans approved.

The Borough Hall part of the structure was sold by Greenwich Council in 2024 for £2.45 million.

Details of the latest application for the Borough Hall can be seen here.

  • I wish these church congregations would utilise the old defunct historic churches rather than building new ones.
