Blackheath Road: Cyclist in critical condition after collision
A cyclist is in a life threatening condition after being hit by a van on Blackheath Road.
It happened around 11:20am today (Monday 29 December) near Deptford Bridge and the former Greenwich Magistrates’ Court.
Police arrived with paramedics and a man was taken to hospital for further treatment.
His injuries are thought to be life-threatening and in a critical condition. Blackheath Road is closed between Lewisham Road and Deptford Bridge for police enquiries.
The Met state: “Police and the London Ambulance Service attended the scene and a man in his 30s was taken to hospital. His injuries have been assessed as life-threatening and he remains in a critical condition.
“Road closures are in place while officers continue to make enquiries.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact police by calling 101 or online, quoting CAD 2139/29DEC.”
TfL state: “BLACKHEATH ROAD, SE10 – ROUTE 53 is on diversion via Greenwich High Road and Greenwich South Street in both direction due to an emergency services incident. Towards Griffin Road / Plumstead Station, bus stop ‘Egerton Drive’ will be missed in both directions. Please allow extra time for your journey.”

I hope the cyclist goes on to make a full recovery. My thoughts are with the man’s family and friends and also the driver of the van who must also be suffering from shock.
The resulting traffic congestion was made worse by Creek Road being closed at the Greenwich Town Centre.
