Secret Cinema takes shape on Greenwich peninsula
A semi-permanent home for Secret Cinema on Greenwich peninsula is taking shape as work on the temporary frame takes shape.
Having held showings for nearly two decades across London in various areas this site is set to stay for ten years, though being Greenwich peninsula could potentially be longer. Plans were approved in July 2026.

A temporary ten-year car park located on the peninsula is now staying for another decade.
You may also remember this area also once saw the temporary David Beckham football academy.
As for why these temporary plans keep popping up and sometimes stay for years is that Knight Dragon and predecessor developers have built the peninsula out slowly since the late 1990s. Still, at least some things are under way including a tower next door.

Though to typify how slowly things move, that was approved 11 years before work began. Upon completion it’ll see 300 build-to-rent units.
As it is, a cinema and adjacent approved temporary theatre at least bring a bit of life to the area compared to yet more tarmac or long-empty plots.
A Section 106 Statement for the cinema notes that “The maximum capacity of the venue identified as 1500 visitors and 130 staff.”

In addition a co-ordination agreement will be signed with Troubadour Theatre, the O2 and Magazine London.
The approved Troubadour theatre next door will see two 1,500-seat auditoriums following the green light being given in January this year and is set to open in 2027. The immersive cinema was approved in July.
