Bexleyheath church put up for sale
A church in Bexleyheath has been placed up for sale.
Bexley Council was informed on 23rd October that Pantiles Methodist Church on Hurlingham Road was to be disposed. It has previously been added to the List of Assets of Community Value on 15th May 2023.
Worship ceased back in 2023 but the site has been used by community groups since.
Because of that a 6-week “interim moratorium period” has now been triggered during which the owner cannot enter into a sale. That window ends on 4th December 2026.
Who can bid
Until then Bexley Council state that “eligible community interest groups must notify the Council if they wish to be treated as a potential bidder for the asset. To do so, they must fill out the “Request to be treated as a Potential Bidder” form, at Request to be treated as a bidder
“Please note that “eligible community interest group” means an organisation that has a local connection (that is, its activities are wholly or partly concerned with Bexley or an area in a neighbouring authority) and has one of the following structures:
- a charity
- a community interest company
- a company limited by guarantee that is non profit distributing
- an industrial and provident society that is non profit distributing
“If the Council receives the “Request to be treated as a Potential Bidder” from on or before 4 December 2026, a longer “full moratorium period” will be triggered, during which organisations can prepare their bids to purchase the property. Once the full moratorium period ends, the owner will be free to proceed with the disposal of their asset to whomever they choose and at any price, and will be under no obligation to accept the offer of any community group.
“If during the interim moratorium period, no eligible community interest groups submit this form requesting to be treated as a potential bidder, the owner will be free to dispose of their asset to whomever they choose and at any prices when this interim moratorium period ends.”
