Part of the Thames Path in Greenwich to be closed until 2027
Part of the Thames Path in Greenwich will be closed until 2027 according to a notice from Greenwich Council.
A section from “Morden Wharf up to the Jetty, Greenwich” will be closed from 27th April until 27 January 2027, though the closure notice is for a period of 18 months if work overruns.
Ridge and Partners will be undertaking widening and resurfacing according to the notice.

This stretch of the river is set to see 1,500 new homes with revised Morden Wharf blocks recently approved.
It’s the latest change in plans for the Morden Wharf site which began 14 years ago in 2012.

Cathedral Group and Development Securities purchased the site before rebranded as U+I. No building was undertaken.
U+I was then bought by Landsec in 2021 when plans were approved, before the site was sold to Galliard Homes and City Developments Limited in 2023 for a further revision.

This stretch of the river is also set to see towers at Enderby Wharf’s next phase.
An earlier plan was for a cruise liner terminal with housing behind. That was dropped and revised plans went in back in 2023. Revised plans were later approved.

Presumably the ‘diversion’ is via Tunnel Avenue, hardly a pleasant pedestrian route. I’m sure the changes will be positive ones once they’re complete but the peninsula in general is so badly provided for that this feels like a big loss.
Agreed-there is already a closed section between the golf range and Morden wharf and even that short detour is awful. No point going to Greenwich via the Thames path for the next 18 months if it takes you via tunnel avenue. Such a shame especially with summer around the corner… but I’m sure it will all be worth it. I just wish the alternative was nicer and not next to the Blackwall approach…
The detour is awful. The Thames walk down to Cutty Sark was a lifeline for me during maternity leave and I’ve found trekking over the over pass down to Studio 338 just isn’t the same. Especially over all that traffic with a baby.
