Proposed 349-room Greenwich hotel at former Court set to finally start
Work on a long-approved 349-room hotel in Greenwich could finally get fully underway.
A new application has been submitted covering a construction programme at the site which includes the former Greenwich Magistrates Court which shut a decade ago.

It suggests work has been ongoing recently and that did appear the case when passing recently.
Note the Goodyear blimp in shot.

Mind you the cabins have been on site for years.
We’ve been here before though with London Hotels Group (LHG) stating in 2021 it would soon start and again in 2024. In 2023 total room numbers increased from 293 to 349.

Since then buildings have been getting into ever worse condition with windows open to the elements and appearing to be rotting away.
Back in 2021 it was stated the project will bring Greenwich £1,859,925 in Community Infrastructure Levy payments alongside Section 106 income.

As well as refurbishment of the former court the plan also includes renovating what were once school buildings and adding extensions.
Greenwich has seen a growing number of hotels with a Premier Inn and Travelodge located nearby. Just down the road another plan emerged this month for a hotel at the former Borough Hall.
In 2025 plans for a smaller hotel was also approved on a site located beside Davy’s Wine Vaults near Greenwich station,
Transport
The closest station to the planned 349-room hotel is Deptford Bridge DLR though Greenwich station is a short walk with services to Zone 1 stations in eight minutes. Fortunately Southeastern will restore services later this year after rail cuts through Greenwich station enforced by the Department for Transport in 2022.
Thameslink are however currently only running half the normal services for much of the day through the station – again due to the Department for Transport – which sees the station with long gaps between trains in prime summer tourist season.
Yet more hotels will only increase transport demand. Thameslink appear set on continuing to cut services in half with another planned in October half term.

The hotel being near Greenwich Town Centre will be an ideal location for tourists with near by transport links to and from Central London and Docklands with the DLR and 53 and 453 bus routes near by.
I do like the idea of converting the former Greenwich Magistrates Court into a hotel with a restaurant. Which does seem like a good idea for Greenwich.
