Plumstead Common open-air cinema plan sees £5k funding award
Greenwich Council has awarded £5,361 for an open-air cinema event on Plumstead Common this summer.
The notice popped up in recent days on the council website with the Royal Borough of Greenwich Events Team seeking cash from the ward budget scheme.
The scheme is a project which saw “£570,000 of one-off resources to fund a Ward Budget Scheme across the Borough for the duration of the current administration.
“This included an allocation of £30,000 to each of the nine wards represented by three Councillors and £20,000 to each of the fourteen wards represented by two Councillors, with £20,000 set aside to support its administration.
“On 5 March 2024, Cabinet agreed to cut the funding for the Ward Budget Scheme by 45% for the remainder of the current administration. This would now reduce the amounts allocated per ward to £11,000 (two-Member wards) or £16,500 (three-Member wards)”.
Date TBC
No date for the open-air cinema event is included in the report except it will be over the summer, while “the event will consist solely of children’s and family-friendly film screenings and will be designed as a relaxed, picnic-style community gathering.
“The aim is to encourage local families to use and enjoy Plumstead Common, strengthen community connections, and provide accessible cultural activity during the summer holidays”.
So keep an eye out as details should become available soon as to exactly what will be shown and on what dates.
