New bar and restaurant in Blackheath proposed

A new bar and restaurant looks set to open in Blackheath with a Lewisham Council licensing hearing due next week.

The site at 14 Royal Parade was formerly Yield gallery and has been marketed by Acorn at £40,000 a year. In the above image it’s the unit on the right beyond the awning.

The applicant is Ornithology Bars and Restaurants Ltd who are seeking to open until midnight Sunday to Wednesday and 1am Thursday to Saturday.

Live music times were the same though after objections that’s been reduced to finish at 10pm. After representations from the Police and Licensing Authority, the applicant “also agreed to additional conditions and the following concessions: The provisions of films, dancing and anything similar should be removed from this application if granted.”

A decision will be made following the meeting on Thursday 22 January.

  • I was wondering what type of food thd pub would sell if it is cladding it self sd a pub/restaurant?
If people are using public transport to reach the new venue due to have drinks. Then perhaps 11pm closing tine on Sunday to Thursday would be better witb the venue closing by midnight on Friday and Saturday nights. Not many bus routes at all run past midnight tbat serve Blackheath Village anf that also includes the SL4 Superloop roure
Minicabs can be very expensive especially in a cost of living crisis and often are more expensive after midnight.
I am all for new pubs restaurants and new businesses opening but we do have to think about the safety of staff and customers and neighbouring residents. We also need to ensure staff and customers can get home quickly and safely. So I co not think the pub/restaurant has to be ooen until 1 am o. Friday and Saturday nights for the reasons stated above. That said I do wish thd owners and staff every success for the further if planning gets the go ahead with slightly reduced opening hours on Friday and Saturday nights.

  • I had a look online and they don’t seem to have any previous experience in running bars. Perhaps I’m wrong. Not sure that is the right spot for a drinks venue but we shall see.

  • People live above the shops and restaurants in Royal Parade. No attempt was made ro ask their views on late-night entertainment. They would have mentioned the problems caused outside the Cactus Pit a few doors away.

  • I agree with you David John. Residents views must be taken in to account especially with venues like pubs that apply for late openings. I also agree with Graham about customers and staff getting home if open after midnight as a lot of the buses serving Blackheath Village stop running around. midnight. As it is a pub/restaurant i think closing around 11 pm to 11;30 pm is late enough to open on on all nights of the week. If residents ate living above
