Large police presence at Blackheath funfair after violence

There is a large police presence in Blackheath this afternoon around the funfair after reports of fighting among groups.

The Met have just implemented a Section 60 order.

They state: “A section 60 order has been put in place in the area of Greenwich Park and Black Heath Common until 7am tomorrow after a number of incidents of violence in the area.”

The Greenwich Council leader has tweeted:

Fireworks are also reported to be have been launched as groups fight.

Police dogs have been seen as police make arrests. A police helicopter is overhead.

UPDATE: Police have drawn lines across streets in an attempt to push groups back.

MP Matt Pennycook has also tweeted:

The funfair has been closed.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • I agree BM cordon off the area and round the culprits up.

There are always people out there with the sole aim of going out to cause violence and trouble for others. They have to spoil things for genuine people trying to have a good time. Just like football hooligans and gangs.

This kind of behaviour is all totally uncalled for and they have a choice not to fight unlike the poor men left in Ukraine fighting to save their Country from aggression
