Charlton pub The Bugle Horn could be spruced up

While Charlton Village has had a rough time of late with shenanigans at the White Swan there’s another pub that has quietly hung in there.

The Bugle Horn has been a mainstay in the area for decades and now new plans are in to spruce it up.

Now plans are in to alter the building following previous rejections.

Prior refusal

Earlier this year Greenwich Council refused a prior submission for altering the building. That application saw opposition over materials and lighting with the council stating:

“Officers raise concern over the use of the proposed internally illuminated trough lighting and the use of aluminium as part of the signage material, which are both considered to not respect the character and appearance of the listed building”.

The newest plan would see a newly painted frontage at ground floor level as well as “amenity boards replace existing signage locations like for like, the boards will be made from timber and hand painted in order to preserve the character of the building.

“The boards are simple and in keeping with the proposed new colour of the building.”

A decision is expected in coming months. In this time when pubs are struggling left, right and centre it’s welcome to see someone willing to spend a few quid.
