Woolwich town centre pub demolition now underway
A Woolwich pub has seen demolition commence in advance of a housing development on site.
The Bull Tavern and adjacent Victorian shops on Vincent Road are coming down, as are garages further down the street.

The pub saw various changes to its signage over the past two decades going from predominantly blue, then red which if memory serves saw tiles painted over and then to grey which wasn’t its best look.
A number of homes on Troy Court are also being replaced as part of a 557-home development from Clarion and The Hill group.
Initially development plans included the retained façade of the pub, though a subsequent proposal in 2025 saw it completely removed.

That was approved and work has now commenced. The newest iteration does reference the pub with arched widows at first floor level.
The development sits opposite Woolwich Arsenal car park and seconds away from the station entrance. It’s behind the new Woolwich Waves leisure centre when viewed from General Gordon Square.

Upon completion blocks will rise up to 20 floors in height.
Richard Cook, chief development officer at Clarion Housing Group, previously said: “Working alongside Hill and the Royal Borough of Greenwich, we’re pleased to be supporting the wider regeneration of Woolwich town centre while providing homes that will remain affordable for local residents for generations to come.”

A video has been uploaded to this site’s Youtube channel with some truly Spielbergian directing.
Woolwich Waves located beside forthcoming housing opened at the start of 2026 replacing the Waterfront leisure centre.
Demolition of the former leisure centre site is set to commence this month according to notices attached to the building.
A project far further along is Woolwich Central which is close to the new leisure centre. Work is fully underway on either side of the Tesco supermarket.
That will see 712 homes upon completion.
