Lewisham Council set to roll out “Sustainable Streets” in early 2024

Lewisham Council are set to roll out street changes across part of the borough from 2024.

Under their “Sustainable Streets” plan these areas will see a Controlled Parking Zone, cycle hangers installed, car club bays and electric vehicle charging points.

The borough’s Mayor and Cabinet are due to look at plans on 6th December and expected to give the green light.

Areas included are Bermondsey around Millwall’s New Den ground as well as Deptford where new homes are being built.

A report before the council’s leader states:

“For Evelyn and New Cross Gate, there were high levels of support for the package of measures in distinct pockets of the consultation area, with the exception of roads to the north of Deptford Park which had higher levels of opposition to the introduction of parking permits”.

If there’s vehicle displacement to the area, there will be another look at changes there.

New developments south of Deptford Park include Neptune Wharf which is approaching completion. There’s also a student block currently on hold after construction company Henry entered administration hitting many sites.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • The Borough that just keeps making life harder for its residents

  • Ever since I moved to Lee in 2019, I have been trying to get the council to consider controlled parking in my road that is close to the station. I was told that CPZs are part of a bigger scheme, then in the consulation phase, and would be rolled out across the borough in stages. Looks as if I have years’ more to wait before there is even the possibility of a CPZ. I have decided to stay and will have to continue the game of musical cars.
