Greenwich Park to Lewisham cycle lane approved
A proposed cycle lane running between Greenwich Park and Elverson Road station in Lewisham has been approved.
Agreement on an indicative design for Cycleway 64 was made last week following consultation earlier this year.

The route will start beside Greenwich Park at the King William Walk exit before turning onto Nevada Street then Burnley Street before reaching Royal Hill.
The route crosses Greenwich South Street near Greenwich Fire Station before heading south to John Penn Street through an existing cycle route in an alleyway beside Blackheath retail park en ro
ute to Elverson Road DLR station.

Changes
A Greenwich Council report lists upcoming changes:
- A new segregated cycle crossing on Greenwich South Street
- Widened footways in key areas along the route allowing for shared walking and cycling
- A new contraflow cycle lane on Burney Street
- An improved contraflow cycle lane on Nevada Street
- Change of priority of the Crooms Hill/Nevada Street junction, which favours east west cycle movement
- Providing clear wayfinding signage along the route to direct people cycling
Impact
Greenwich Council’s report estimates impact upon other modes of transport, with “the design is expected to have a neutral impact on buses.” They state: “The relocation of the zebra crossing on Greenwich South Street will benefit users of nearby bus stops.”
When it comes to general traffic: “The design is expected to have some impact on general traffic. Wider footways and raised junctions will have a slowing effect on general traffic.”

There will be a net loss of one parking space.
Funding for the project comes from both TfL and developer income.
