Former Blackheath bank reopens as vets after shop and bakery plans failed

A bank in Blackheath has reopened as a vets after two previous attempts to reopen as a bakery and then a mini-supermarket failed.

This isn’t breaking news given it opened a few weeks ago but given I’ve covered various plans at this site over the years I thought it’s worth covering.

A bank for many decades, Lloyds closed their branch back in 2020 and a year late bakery chain Ole & Steen applied to open.

Proposed bakery

The company sought to lengthen a number of windows at street level. The application was rejected by Greenwich Council but permitted on appeal.

It never progressed though and in 2024 plans for a small Asda supermarket was submitted.

That never progressed despite a premises licence being granted and finally the vet plan arrived. It has now opened.

Creature Comforts vets are now based on site a short distance from Blackheath station.

Asda did recently open an Express outlet on Greenwich South Street.
