Greenwich Park to Lewisham cycle lane plan unveiled
Greenwich Council has unveiled plans for road changes between Lewisham and west Greenwich to accommodate a cycle lane.
The route starts at Greenwich Park at the King William Walk exit before turning onto Nevada Street.

A mini roundabout would be situated at the end of the street outside the Ye Olde Rose and Crown pub.
It then heads onto Burnley Street before reaching Royal Hill. Heading west the route passes across Greenwich South Street before heading south to John Penn Street and Elverson Road DLR station.
It’s not a segregated lane and that results in paint markings on existing streets though there are quite a few street changes including double yellow lines, raised crossings, contraflow sections and parking changes.
We’ll need to see what materials they use. A recent project in Plumstead Corner along was done on the cheap with new footway surfaces not matching existing materials so it all looks a bit slapdash.
Good work such as removing excessive street clutter was also undertaken.

Quite a few raised tables are proposed which could include the use of setts – or other materials. There’s some gorgeous streets around here full of character so getting it right matters.
Details of the project can be viewed here and comments are accepted.

Traffic in and round Greenwich Town Centre is congested at the best of times. I am not sure how this cycle lane will wotk as some roads are narrow in places.
As well as cycle lanes TFL and the Mayor of London needs to invest in improving local bus services improving frequencies and introducing new local bus routes.
Make it easier for people to travel around the Borough and beyond.
These proposals will further limit space for cars and buses on Greenwich South St , now enduring extra traffic on evening rush hours because of the effects of the local LTN scheme . Not surprised these proposals were not revealed before the May local election. Meanwhile traffic continues to choke Greenwich town centre .
Appreciate council officers and cllrs want to encourage more cycling which is a good idea but dedication to this cause seems to blot out any thought for other road users – who are probably also borough residents. See a wish to please TfL here whom I assume are paying for it ?
This scheme needs looking at again by those responsible for drawing it up.
Wait, Greenwich Council? Actual Greenwich Council, proposing a cycle lane? Yeah right might, will believe that when I see it built… And of course it’s only painted…
I’m against it meself. We aint ad any mitigations on Greenwich Sarf Street n the ltn as made life worse, before traffic was evens all arahnd the area. Blue Badge olders also ave rights so do pedestrians n all.
