Deptford Christmas light switch-on and events on this weekend

Deptford is set to see festive events kick off over the coming weekend as Christmas lights are turned on.

Christmas lights are set to be switched on tomorrow (Friday 1st December) at 7pm.

The weekend pedestrianisation usually seen will be extended to Ffinch Street to give pedestrians more space to shop and enjoy the celebrations.

Not the High street I know, though taken this week and the lights look a bit festive

The council are looking at eventually pedestrianisation much of the High Street. And about time too. not much heard recently mind.

Other events this Friday and Saturday include a Santa’s grotto which is free for children to enter.

Music and crafts

They’ll be live music performances and carol singing plus arts and craft activities. The council also promise street food stalls and additional outdoor seating.

As an addendum, I did once have some cracking photos from about 2010 of Deptford High Street in the snow which for the life of me I cannot now find. I’ve just spent half an hour looking for them thinking they’d be great to include in this post. If they turn up I’ll add them.
