Plumstead High Street changes take shape in two areas
A little update today on street changes in two areas of Plumstead High Street beside Bannockburn school and at Plumstead Corner.
Firstly work on the roundabout at Plumstead Corner which is seeing changes including narrowing the road on approaches to the roundabout.

In addition a zebra crossing is being installed on Wickham Lane. It’s a Greenwich Highways Department didn’t match the new surface with existing paving giving it a temporary and pretty cheap look.
It may not seem much but it’s action like this which gives certain areas a slapdash, ugly appearance.

Still, at least some street clutter has gone.
A short distance west and works to narrow the road near Plumstead police station, a petrol station and Bannockburn school is now all but complete.

They’ve put in some actual paving here.
No trees in the spot above though. I hope that’s due to utilities below and not as there was no forethought.
What’s been impressively (shite) about Greenwich lately is planting trees in front of some of the borough’s best buildings – so when the trees grow they’ll be obscured – yet not planting in areas it would be welcome.
They’ve been doing it all across Woolwich. A beleaguered town yet one that has a proud history and many stunning buildings, of which in a decade many will be obscured. Bafflingly inept management.
Anyway, back to Plumstead High Street and bus stops will move outside the school. They may already have done so as it’s been a few days since passing by.
When complete it should be better for those on foot.

The new crossing at Plumstead Corner is very welcome, not least in getting to the new (excellent) coffee shop over the road from it. The execution does seem slapdash compared even to what they’ve done at Bannockburn, and a missed opportunity to repave the whole corner and give it more of a presence & identity.
