New sushi restaurant prepares to open in Woolwich

A new sushi restaurant is set to open soon on Powis Street in Woolwich.

Kokoro are to welcome customers from 7th May into the new branch located at 51 Powis Street.

Kokoro set to open soon. Popeyes next door

It was last home to Mama 2 Mama café and baby bank which unfortunately closed down. The shopfront had benefited from renovation works as part of Heritage England’s Action Zone project in Woolwich.

A number of business across town benefited from shopfront upgrades.

It’s not the only sushi place in Woolwich with the well regarded Hitachi having their own unit on Hare Street. They were formerly in the Woolwich Market building at the western end of Powis Street.

Hitachi have moved from Woolwich Market building

That’s not the Woolwich market at Beresford Square or even the old covered market which has been closed for many years now save for a short period when it was Street Feast.

This one near Traveelodge and the old co-op has a number of small stalls inside.

More food outlets on Powis Street may bring a bit more life in the evenings.

No outside seating

One idea when Powis Street was revamped was outside seating day and night for restaurants, though I notice even Nando’s aren’t doing so on recent visits despite the very sunny and war weather.

Perhaps it was the wrong time of day.

Question now is whether Woolwich’s Powis Street can or will transition into a more food-led, evening destination.
