Woolwich Wetherspoon to reopen after refurbishment

The Great Harry ‘spoons in Woolwich is set to reopen in coming days after a month-long closure.

The pub was originally supposed to reopen yesterday (26 March) according to the company but the revised date is now 1st April.

Closing for so long seems a little odd as it was hardly too bad inside. Still in good nick and not too shabby. Perhaps the large number of stalls by the entrance will go?

As far as the wider pub goes I’d say it was one of the best spoons in south east London. Good beer range, low prices (even by the chain’s standards) and good staff.

I know the company can be highly divisive but there’s no where else you can meet friends and get a pint for £1.99 when not flush with cash.

Building changes

While searching for some photos of the pub for this post I was reminded that there were plans for a rooftop extension of the building.

Rejected

Having looked into it again it turns out that plan was rejected by Greenwich Council.

One thing that doesn’t appear to have been sorted is the letters on the corner are progressively falling off, so it went from “Thames House” to the current “H O S”. Can’t be long until the last three letters give up the ghost.

Pub reopens soon. He will be pleased

  • Im looking forward to seeing how this will all look. I know someone who got barred from here some time ago. Will he be allowed back in after the refurbishment?

  • Most pointless refirbishment ever. Nothing truly stands out. It is certainly not justified to close for a month.
