Catford mural on the way as Lewisham announce funding

A mural is set to appear in Catford following the announcement of £6,000 in funding from Lewisham Council.

The side of a council owned building at the junction of 120 Rushey Green and Holbeach Road will be the recipient of artwork.

Holbeach Road saw public realm upgrade works in 2022 with the addition of new landscaping and seating.

Lewisham Council state that they’re “now inviting artists to submit expressions of interest for the commission. Designs should reflect themes of community identity, safety and pride in place, and help strengthen the experience of key walking routes through the town centre.

“The available budget for the project is £6,000 which covers design, development and installation.”

The artwork is expected to be painted during late summer or autumn this year.

Expressions of interest are open until Tuesday 7th April 2026 at 11.59pm and artists connected to Lewisham or South East London will be prioritised.

  • I’m fairly sure that a lot of artists will just do it for free or for the cost of the paint, and are just happy to have a wall on which to display their talent.

If you like south east London street art then I recommend https://londoncallingblog.net
