Secure cycle parking locations across Greenwich borough now consulted on

Greenwich Council have launched a consultation into the location of cycle parking across the borough.

Not to be confused with a simultaneously launched consultation into e-bike parking spots, this seeks feedback on the site of 50 secure cycle hangars.

Of the 50 sites, most are situated in Greenwich and Plumstead.

Councillor Calum O’Byrne Mulligan, Cabinet Member for Climate Action, Sustainability and Transport, said:

“One of the major barriers to getting around by bike is knowing you have somewhere safe to store your bike, particularly as many of us don’t have space to safely store our bike at home. That’s why we’re proposing 50 new cycle hangars across the borough, at locations residents have asked for them.”

Consultation ends on 11th March 2026.

  • More consultants. More waste. What happened to being adults, making decisions themselves, and living with the consequences?

Plus, wasn’t all this covered in the last complete flop of a “consultation”?

  • Suggest council officers proof read the title for the map for West Greenwich as it is labelled East Greenwich.
The one for East Greenwich is labelled something else.
Are these sheds actually used and if so to what capacity ?

They tend to be full and have waiting lists, though it does vary by borough. Probably anywhere from 50% to all bike hangars have a waiting list depending on the borough, which is understandable as a lot of people don’t have any secure storage and theft is so rife.

      • Yeah I don’t get it. They spend millions redoing the roads for dedicated cycle lanes but most residents have no cycle storage and they have like 5 in the borough…

    • Have had one of these on my street for over a year – NEVER BEEN USED!!

  • With more and more people forced to live in high rise tower blocks with very little or no storage space. The cycle sheds would be very welcome. As R says cycle theft is rife and remains on the increase.

  • Complete and utter waste of money!!

    • Why? You usually have to pay a fee to use them I imagine that covers running cost, it might encourage more people to cycle and likely comes from a capital not rdel budget so won’t affect services and sure as hell is better to help park a dozen bikes than 1 car. (I say having both in the borough)

  • We have two outside the council block where I live and nobody seems to use them.
