Floating park and houseboat plan around Cable Car

Plans have been revealed around Royal Victoria Dock in east London for houseboats, a floating park and other changes near the Cable Car and City Hall.

An expanded area for swimming in the dock is also featured alongside “floating lido, sauna and spa experiences”.

Royal Docks Waterways are behind the proposal which allows me to look through my hundreds of photos taken over the years of this spot from the cable car.

This part of town has changed gradually over the past decade, with a hotel now located on the dock plus ever more new residential blocks rising. A second hotel plan went in last year though the Royal Docks Waterways oppose that plan.

Further ongoing changes include the latest housing block on a former car park for the Excel.

As seen above a few attempts have been made to draw people in with boats moored and dockside seating areas which seem pretty popular in summer.

The Excel centre has also expanded not too far away and also now hosts exhibitions alongside conventions. City Hall moved here from near Tower Bridge and is located in a former Siemens building.

A timeline states planning may be made by 2027-28 and construction and opening around the end of the decade.
