Multiple buses damaged by objects in Bexleyheath say TfL

Bexley Council offices. Watling Street to the right

Transport for London have diverted bus route 96 in Bexleyheath after multiple buses were damaged.

Incidents on Watling Street occurred during Saturday evening with “youths throwing objects” causing “safety issues”.

Watling Street runs east from Bexleyheath town centre past Bexley Council offices and connects the town to Crayford.

TfL state “ROUTE 96 is diverted in both directions via Erith Road, Mayplace Road East and Crayford High Street”.

  • Let’s hope these stupid little idiots are caught and made go pay towards the cost of the damage to the buses. If they cannot afford it then their parents/guardians can pay. We need to stamp out this kind of mindless vandalism.. The court can even apply a detachment of earnings from benefits and salaries if not paid. So their are no excuses.

  • I agree make the parents pay if the culprits cannot pay themselves..As this is criminal damage as well as mindless vandalism so someone has to.pay for the damage.
They should not be allowed to get away it..

Years ago i worked in a cafe, and one of the staff had been caught stealing. It was serious enough to get before a magistrate, who agreed that the thief (now back on the dole) could repay at £1 a week for 400 weeks. A month’s payment went by, then nothing. Ask any small store owner why they’re rarely recruit outside family, and its because of this. Either the kids are from antisocial families for whom arrests and summons are simply a formality, or they’re doing it for social media likes. Either way, there’s little support or incentive for our poor police forces to get involved in something like this.

  • Totally agree. I would also stop their free travel if they are on one of the TFL discount travel schemes procvided for young people and students. They damage the vehicles they pay for the damage.

  • You make some valid points Charles. Many do come from anti social families. If deducting fines from.benefits tbey should be deducted at £10 per week. Hit them where it hurts in the pockets.

Has this happened a lot recently. Why do such a thing when people rely on using a bus to get around and some mindless people or young kids causing trouble. Or is this what people are faced with everyday and the Met Police can’t do anything about it.
