Post Office set to return to Woolwich town centre

A Post Office is to return to Woolwich town centre for the first time since WH Smith closed on Powis Street back in April.

It’ll be located a short distance away at 102 Powis Street beside CEX at the former Carphone Warehouse unit.

WH Smith in Woolwich with Post Office before closure

Woolwich Post Office was often very busy yet WH Smith’s closure saw no provision whatsoever in the town centre for much of this year. The closest location was at Woolwich Dockyard.

Fortunately that’s set to change in 2026 when the new branch opens on 30th January.

The former WH Smith remains empty though as covered recently a large unit over the road in Woolwich is set to become a B&M.

Both the forthcoming B&M and Post Office sites are owned by British Land, who also own much of the town centre’s shops.

Information is due to be uploaded to the Post Office Views website soon.

  • Excellent news the Post Office will be a welcomed addition to Powis Street. The old Post Office was very much missed after WH Smiths closed.
I hope a new retailer can soon by found for the old WH Smith Store on Powis Street. As this store is on a prine location on Powis Street.
