Tube trains see Playstation makeover as Sony partners with TfL

TfL have agreed sponsorship from Sony which is seeing a Playstation theme applied to the Victoria line.

Presumably the line was chosen as it’s blue colour scheme matches Sony’s blue Playstation branding and timing is likely due to the 30th anniversary of the PS1’s launch.

Though that was in Japan. It didn’t arrive in the UK until 29 September 1995.

One of the original Playstation’s most famous franchises Tomb Raider saw a level set in Aldwych station. Tomb Raider III had players navigating around the disused station.

It got me thinking of any other times the Underground has been in a game. Was it ever in The Getaway?

It’s the latest sponsorship between TfL with recent examples causing controversy as entire station names and station signage were replaced causing trouble to tourists.

It’s not the first link-up between Sony and TfL either, with a 2021 campaign seeing the famous roundel accompanied by Playstation-related signs.

  • There was a terrible game called Hellgate set entirely within the London Underground. Demons had taken over the surface of the Earth, and the only place the Knights Templar could use as their base of operations was the tube network, the original tunnels and walls built by freemasons to repel evil. Yes, your progress map of safe zones was the District and Circle line. It was also multilplayer, so as in real life Temple station was packed to the brim with people waiting for a train that never came.

    You did ask
