Wetherspoons place Eltham and Bexleyheath pubs up for sale

Two Wetherspoons pubs in Bexleyheath and Eltham are among 32 that the company have put up for sale.

The Banker’s Draft in Eltham and the Wrong ‘Un on Bexleyheath Broadway are listed in a document from Savills as the company faces declining sales.

The Eltham pub is extremely small by the normal cavernous standards of Wetherspoons.

Wetherspoons in Eltham

The Wrong ‘Un in Bexleyheath was originally the only Wetherspoons in the town with sister brand Lloyds occupying a large unit the other end of the town centre.

Lloyds closed after issues on site, and reopened as a second branded Wetherspoons named the Furze Wren.

The company now sees two sites as excessive and seeks to dispose of one.

In Eltham it’s not inconceivable that they will seek a new pub that conforms to their normal business model of larger sized pubs, where economies of scale come into play.

The chances of ever finding a table were slim at best.

Woolwich and Greenwich branches are not for sale, with both more in line with typical Wetherspoons in having large internal areas.

In July the company warned of a £30 million loss. Their share price is down nine per cent today.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.
