Crossrail train opens doors onto track at Stratford

Some countries are relaxed on things like this but in the UK its a severe safety issue that can have large repercussions for manufacturers and stock.

The issues are obvious – visually impaired people could exit the wrong side. And if a train is packed there’s a risk people fall – though it was quiet tonight.

The issue could have been driver error (is that possible on new stock?) or more problems with Crossrail trains which have been beset with reliability faults.

One major cause of the Elizabeth Line’s delay is rolling stock signalling issues though that’s not the only problem. Reliability has been poor in a number of areas.

If this is a rolling stock problem that’s more issues to add to the pile. It could well mean all stock withdrawn for investigation which is not the best when they should be replacing 40 year old stock in east London.
