Plumstead station area street changes slowly take shape
Changes outside Plumstead station to improve the area are slowly taking shape.
It’s not exactly moving at the speed of light but kerbs are taking shape which will add extra space for pedestrians outside the station.

The project is related to new homes rising nearby, of which the biggest is Lombard Square which has approved plans for almost 2,000 homes.
Other related changes include widening pavements between the site and station as well as a spruce up of an underpass.

There’s been little information from Greenwich Council about the changes save for some designs in a council report some months ago.
No fancy renders have been produced, and if other changes are a guide these plans may not be 100 per cent accurate when work completes.

As can be seen a cycle lane will head through the area joining an existing lane to the west which leads to Woolwich.
Greenery
Trees and greenery are proposed with the road narrowed. The main crossing towards Lombard Square housing is being moved a few metres away, while a pedestrian footbridge is being closed for good.
Funding for the changes comes from the are being designated as a Housing Zone a decade ago.

That knackered and out of date road sign, pointing to a military base that’s no longer there, is stubbornly refusing to disappear!
