Former Blackheath bar to see new occupant
Unit is seen pretty much slap bang in the middle with to let board.
A former bar on Montpelier Vale in Blackheath has seen plans go in to open as a vets.
The site at 7-9 Montpelier Vale was formerly Mordens Bar and if it does become a vets, that’d follow quickly on the heels of another recently opening in the former Lloyds bank building.
Virtue Petco Blackheath Ltd are behind this new plan.
An application uploaded to Lewisham Council’s website states that “Planning consent was granted in October 2024 (ref DC/24/136455) for change of use to class E (restaurant), class C3 residential on the upper floors and new build mews office, class E, at the rear.”

The building’s landlord claims there were no takers when the site was marketed:
“Despite a sustained period of proactive exposure, we can confirm that there has been zero meaningful appetite or realistic commercial interest from Sui Generis nightclub or wine bar operators to re-occupy or re-establish the venue in its existing capacity.
“While the location on Montpelier Vale remains a vibrant retail and leisure pitch, the cost associated with running a business of this nature in the current climate meant that no suitable or proceedable tenant could be found under that use.”
Annual rent was £95,000 + VAT and included upper floors.
