Woolwich Front Room set to close early next year
Woolwich Front Room on Powis Street has announced the closure of their home following a new landlord not renewing the lease.
The unit offers food and drink, events, gallery exhibits and class, amongst others.
In a post today they state:
“Woolwich Front Room, which GCDA took on in June 2022, was sold earlier this year to a new landlord.
“Unexpectedly, in spite of our best attempts, we were recently told that our lease of the building was not being renewed – our last day at Woolwich Front Room will be Friday 22nd January 2027.”

They’re looking for alternative premises and are asking anyone who can help to email woolwichfrontroom@gcda.org.uk.

CEO of GCDA Claire Pritchard:
“We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve built here at Woolwich Front Room and it is deeply disappointing to learn that we have to leave Powis Street, particularly when there is still so much more we want to achieve. The closure will have a significant impact not only on those who use the service, but also on the staff and volunteers who have helped make it such a success.
“The situation highlights a wider challenge facing community organisations: while their work creates lasting social value, their ability to continue often depends on access to buildings over which they have little control.
“However, we are determined that this won’t be the end of the story. We know how much this service means to the people who use it, and we are actively exploring alternative locations and pursuing every avenue available to secure a future for the Front Room and those it serves.
“In the meantime, we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported the creation of this incredible hub over the last four and a half years. We’ve been honoured to be part of your community.”
