Hotel room totals boosted in revised Abbey Wood hotel and housing plan

Plans to build a hotel in Abbey Wood alongside co-living units has seen revised designs submitted to Greenwich Council.

Hotel rooms will increase from 110 to 120 while external designs are to be altered from previously approved plans.

Tower set to rise on former car wash site

The project will provide a new vets with the existing PDSA unit to be demolished. They will temporarily move to a site at Cross Quarter on Felixstowe Road in Abbey Wood before moving to a new corner unit upon completion.

Last October it was announced that £122 million was to be provided by Maslow Capital for developer Definition Capital to build the scheme, which has been on the drawing board for many years.

Render from almost a decade ago

It’s as if there’s a completion in the area to see who can build the slowest despite the arrival of the Elizabeth line nearby.

Peabody over the road are giving it a good shot, with plots along Harrow Manorway cleared years ago but no plan to build in places until the late 2030s. There’s other plots nearby without any dates at all. Maybe the 2050s? Why rush to build seconds from an £18 billion new railway line?

Homes flattened on Peabody plots but some spots won’t start for a decade.

Co-living

As well as a 120-room hotel they’ll be 487 co-living units, which is student-like housing for those who aren’t students. A room with shared social facilities and kitchens.

The site is beside Lidl and on the junction of Harrow Manorway and Eynsham Drive. As for the hotel operator it’s not yet been revealed.

  • Is there really any need for an hotel in Abbey Wood. It is not near any major tourist attractions.
I tnink this site would have been bettet used for social housing for local families on the housing waiting list.

    • It’s got incredibly good transport links. Coming to London to see a gig at the O2? Direct link. The city? Less than 20 mins. Canary Wharf? Less than 10 mins. Stratford, St Pancras, London Bridge etc etc all one train away. Paddington too. Luton airport? Same. City Airport? 15 mins away. It goes on and on.

  • Why on earth would you build a hotel there? Have they seen what is next door? Who wants to travel to stay and live next to a traveler’s area nested with criminal activity. This is mental!

    • It’s a 5 mins walk to a station offering 20 trains and hour all over London and beyond. Tourist don’t care they want a room and travel. Less than 20 mins to central London, 10 mins to Canary Wharf etc. coming to the city to see a concert, play or whatever and ideal. Transport links are fantastic
