Erith Working Men’s Club redevelopment into housing proposed

Plans have been submitted to Bexley Council to redevelop the former Erith Working Men’s Club on Valley Road.

A total of nine flats are proposed within a new block.

Proposed flats

Built around 1910 the Working Men’s Club closed around 2018. Previous applications to use the building for a nursery, place of worship and function hall were all refused.

The replacement is a pretty modest affair in keeping with nearby housing. A six foot brick wall on the corner doesn’t present a great street frontage mind.

The applicant is listed on the application as Erith Residency. Click here to view the application.

  • Hopefully the shopping centre will eventually get a redevelopment

  • This is such good news – this whole corner looks very sad at the moment and it’s a nice area and deserves much better. What is happening with the shops on the corner from here, all boarded up around the chemist at the end of Pembroke Rd? This is also a perfect space for a development and not sure if that’s why it’s all boarded up? Also wondering the same in the space opposite Wicks too? There is so much empty boarded up space around Belvedere Station too and that station seriously needs some love putting into it and a great development opportunity there.

Has work stopped on the flats going up at the end of Abbey Wood Village opposite the station? Thanks for your great work

    • The boarded up portion by Wickes is due to be a Lidl – but agree re the rest, so many boarded up places in the area … it just feels so run down

  • Concerned local

The planning application had been withdrawn. I would imagine the local resident might not welcome this given the current on-going parking issue with the garage. If this is to go through, the developer will have to bring more benefits to the residents like bringing in shops and reduce the amount of residential usage in the planning to reduce the burden of parking in the area. The recent planning application includes 7 parking space for 9 flats, thats simply not enough.
