Falconwood development sees design change

An approved housing development near Falconwood station has seen design changes submitted to Greenwich Council.

Approved in 2024 the block was controversial in part given its height and cladding choice.

Initial rejected plan

Initially it had a turquoise exterior with the approved block at seven storeys – which had been reduced from a taller rejected building. Now the block will reduce to six storeys and see a conventional brick exterior. Window sizes are increased.

The application’s Design and Access Statement says the structure will now see:

“Simplified materiality with replacement of blue terracotta & gabion cladding with buff brick and a variety of brick special detailing”.

Before and after. bigger windows now evident alongside colour change and stepped roofline

Greenwich Council’s off-shoot developer Meridian Home Start are behind the venture alongside Pure Lake.

Housing totals remain the same at 62 flats. A prior, taller block with 70 homes had been refused by Greenwich Council and then on appeal, in part due to the impact on nearby Oxleas Wood.

  • I think the new revised plans and colour scheme will fit in better the surroundings and nearby Oxleas Woods.
