Blackheath village to see cheesemonger replace charity shop

Plans have been submitted for building works and change of use at a shop unit at 10 Montpelier Vale.

The site is currently home to Mary’s Living and Giving shop on behalf of Save the Children.

According to drawings within the application the site will become home to Mons cheesemongers.

Mons have two shops in East Dulwich and Bermondsey alongside a stall at Borough market and Brockley market.

The company “select traditionally made Continental & British cheeses and age them in our cellars in London and on the Cote Roannaise. We also supply a range of dairy produce, cured meats, crackers, condiments, beers, wines, ciders & perries.”

  • Very happy to hear this. I have shopped from their East Dulwich store before and their cheeses are top notch. Looking forward to them opening in The Village.

  • I think they would do well, especially if they pair it with some events like wine and cheese pairing etc, creating a genuine neighborhood shop for the local community. But I wish it was a nail shop or estate agent closing down, rather than a charity shop…

I welcome a cheesemonger in the village as I need only hop on a bus from Lee or walk if I have enough energy. The supermarkets are just ignoring some cheeses, specifically goats’ cheese cheddar.

@G: I don’t think there is enough revenue to share among all the charity shops, but I am surprised that it’s Mary’s rather than Cancer research which will close a number of shops during 2026.
