Fire in Greenwich: 70 firefighters on scene as Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels closed
Both Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels are now closed in both northbound and southbound directions
Ten fire engines on site. Multiple bus routes diverted.

Blackwall Lane in Greenwich is closed this evening after a fire broke out in an industrial unit home to Vetraland Timber Merchants.
London Fire Brigade state 70 firefighters are on scene along with ten fire engines. Two 32-metre turntable ladders are in attendance and being used as water towers to help extinguish the fire from above.

They continued “the fire is producing a significant amount of smoke and people in the local area are advised to keep windows and doors closed.”
The A102 is closed northbound approaching both Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels. The fire is situated close to the A102 flyover at the junction of Blackwall Lane and Tunnel Avenue.
Bus diversions
Bus route 422 is on diversion with road closures affecting both Tunnel Avenue and Blackwall Lane.
LFB were first call at 6:13pm and crews from East Greenwich, Greenwich. Deptford, Poplar and surrounding fire stations are on scene.

8:45pm UPDATE: The cordon around the fire has been extended. Bus routes 108, SL4 and 188 are also now impacted. Both the Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels are now also closed southbound.

First the Poundland in Penge, then the sports shop in Forest Hill, now this. Goes to show that you can’t be too careful. Fire takes no prisoners.

Absolutely C. We need to see much better pay deals for our firefighters. Paramedics and Police Officers who attend incidents and often put their lives at risk. I am glad to here on the local BBC news there have been no reports of any one being hurt during this incident.
