Homebase Catford demolition under way

Demolition of a former Homebase in Catford is now underway.

The distinctive former store – very much a 1980s design will its glazed roof – will be replaced by Home Bargains who will fundamentally alter the appearance of the unit.

Altered layout

It was purchased for £11.75 million in 2023 with the new structure set to feature a café overlooking the lake beside.

The pond/lake is fed from the River Ravensbourne and one of the better spots to sit for a cup of tea.

Home Bargains have relatively few branches in the area with the closest two being Charlton and another in Orpington.

Revised plans approved in August state some of the existing structure will be reused though it’ll look completely different upon completion.

  • Yes a great shame . Homebase was part of Sainsbury’s expansion into Home & Garden aspects on retail.I believe the CEO involved was a Mr Hoyer Miller Unfortunately Sainsbury’s sold it’s concept & it all went pear shaped That’s Cest La Vie in the UK currently.I see little prospect of change

Home Bargains, I was hoping for The Range. The one at Surrey Quays went and the Homebase site would have been a good location.
