Greenwich Council could close Charlton’s Hayatt Lounge after incidents

Police are seeking the possible closure of a Charlton bar after further incidents including a recent assault which left the victim in a life threatening condition and a separate stabbing.

Hayatt Lounge is located in an industrial estate in Charlton and had its licensed reviewed in 2023 after allegations a woman had been throttled by a doorman while another incident saw a woman bitten on the breast and left with bruising to her head.

This time around police state that that a member of staff was assaulted outside the venue on 27 July though “police officers conducting the investigation have found it difficult to obtain statements from other members of staff who have witnessed the incident and were involved in detaining the suspect”.

On 30 June a report before Greenwich Council’s licensing committee states “police received another call to the Hayatt Lounge regarding a large-scale fight taking place.

“The suspect had been ejected from the venue, he has then returned to the venue 30 minutes later with a knife and confronted security at the venue. A violent fight has taken place, resulting in one of the security staff being stabbed in the underarm leaving a puncture wound.”

In April 2025 another incident saw “Officers attending were faced with mass disorder and ended up arresting two members of venues security team and eventually managed to disperse the crowd.”

A number of other incidents and issues are listed. The club has had conditions applied until a full meeting will be held to determine its future on Tuesday 26 August.

  • Greenwich Council was going to close it before due to serious incidents taking place and arrest made

Clearly nothing has changed and the owners/management and staff have learnt nothing since the last time the venue was threatened with closure.
Any other pub or club would have lost their licence long ago.
