Former Bexleyheath jobcentre sees conversion plans

An application has been made to convert a former Jobcentre on Bexleyheath Broadway into two units.

The site was formerly an Argos until the Jobcentre took over before vacating in recent years.

Now the shopping centre operator New River Retail states:

“New extraction flues are also proposed to meet the needs of the incoming tenants. New voids will be formed through existing floor slabs to accommodate the extractor ducting, which will be
routed internally up to first floor level, with blockwork enclosures on the upper and lower multistorey car park decks.”

That suggests fast food or restaurant use for the two units.

Details can be seen within the application.

  • It is good to see empty buildings being brought back in to use. It does sound like the units will be for possible take aways.
I read they have proposed evening market on the Blroadway in Bexleyheath so take away or fast food outlets may also help to improve the night time economy in Bexleyheath.

  • I wonder what will happen to the old Job Centre on Powis Street in Woolwich which closed at the end of 2024. The site was previously New Look and was originally Littlewoods many years ago. So could easily be converted back in to retail units.
