New Woolwich supermarket now open

A new supermarket has opened in Woolwich after two years wait.

TFC have a number of stores across London and have opened their latest on Powis Street beside Travelodge.

I looked at plans over the past couple of years including a post earlier this month, noting how this end of Woolwich which has long struggled has recently seen some welcome signs of improvement.

Hopefully soon we see units open within some wonderful buildings including the art deco former co-op which saw upper floors converted to residential use.

Antic once planned a pub in one unit next door, though with their other Woolwich outlet closing this year due to rent arrears, that now seems extremely unlikely.

Buildings crying out to be renovated

The new TFC will hopefully bring more footfall down this end of the own centre and improve prospects for nearby units.

Numerous shops shuttered

Unfortunately many were closed as part of a proposed development – which seems to have gone nowhere for years.

Mortgramit Square proposal saw units closed in area and empty ever since

TFC’s new store includes a butcher’s and bakery counter.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.
