Micropub proposed in Mottingham

Plans are in to open a micropub in a former florists in Mottingham.

The unit at 275 Court Road is a short walk from Mottingham station and located at the periphery of a shopping area.

Images within the application give the pub’s name as The Bat and Ball, and would join other micropubs nearby in Eltham.

Cricketer W. G. Grace once lived in Mottingham.

Micropubs tend to have shorter opening hours and focus less upon mass market drinks. Music isn’t played and they occupy former shop units and thus cheaper to operate.

The application states: “Due to the fact that there are no pubs in Mottingham village any more apart from one, further up the road, we believe the local people and passers through don’t really have somewhere nice and relaxed to meet with each other and unwind.

They would have to go up to Eltham High Street or Towards Chislehurst.”

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.
