Man shot in Mottingham

Police are appealing for help after a man was shot in a residential area of Mottingham last night.

Police were called shortly before 7pm on Monday after the shooting at Grace Close, Mottingham.

Police state: “A 23-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment for a gunshot wound to his foot. His injuries have been assessed as not life-threatening.”

Enhanced police presence will be in place over coming days.

Detective Inspector Kevin Ricketts said:

“This incident, in which a young man was injured, happened in a residential street in the early evening – a time when members of the public were going about their business as usual. Police and communities must work together to apprehend violent offenders and we would like anyone who saw anything at all to come and speak to us in confidence. Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, might prove vital to finding the person or people responsible.

“Understandably, members of the local community will be worried by this, but I can assure residents that we are doing everything we can to establish the circumstances and identify everyone linked to this incident.

“While residents are right to be concerned, fortunately firearms discharges are extremely rare.

“You can expect to see additional patrols in the area over the coming days, and I would urge local people to approach officers on patrol to discuss any information or concerns they have with them.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 and give cad 5900/02May, or Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.

  • It’s not. The crime rate is pretty stable at the moment and murders fewer than the 1990s.
